Stephanie Baker Hurst, CST, FAST
President, Florida State Assembly

Hello! My name is Stephanie Baker Hurst, CST, FAST, MHSc, your 2023-2025 Florida State Assembly President. I have been a member of AST and our Florida State Assembly in many capacities since 2010:

  • Director for the Assembly, August 2019 - October 2021
  • Secretary, October 2021 – October 2023.
  • National Delegate (AST), 2019 to present

I look forward to the upcoming year! Our goal is to plan and coordinate opportunities for continuing education, networking, and professional development to show you we are here to encourage you in your journey as a lifelong learner and essential allied health professional. Your Florida State Assembly BOD is committed to raising community awareness about our role as part of the surgical team and how important a surgical technologist is to patient safety.

I am a 6th?generation Floridian and live in Vero Beach, Florida with my husband, Gary, and our son Nathan. We completed our family during the COVID lockdown and rescued our lab mix Dubh (sounds like “dew” and is Gaelic for black). My husband is from Donegal, Ireland and his hometown is my favorite getaway spot. I cannot wait to be able to travel overseas again.

As Indian River State College’s Surgical Technology Program Director, I am passionate about my profession and students; I am committed to raising awareness about the importance of accredited educational programs and certification. Surgical technologists are a critical member of the surgical team who advocate for patient safety and are experts in the theory and practice of sterile technique.

I myself, am proud to be a 3-time graduate of Indian River State College; I received my associate’s of arts, surgical technology vocational certificate, and Bachelor’s of Applied Science in Healthcare Management. In April 2021, I completed my Master’s in Health Science, higher education focus.

I thank you all for the opportunity to serve as a member of the Executive Board for the Florida State Assembly and I encourage you all to reach out should you have any issues or contributions on how we can better assist you, the surgical technologist.
